2022 home design trends

If you are buying, building, or remodeling a house, it may be helpful to consider the latest trends for 2022 home design. As 2022 home designfamilies and individuals spend more time at home entertaining, working, and attending school and as the influence on green living becomes more important, we are seeing it influence design decisions. Here are some of the trends you can expect to see:

More curves, less sharp lines

Curved furniture was a big trend in 2021, and it is here to stay in 2022. Rounded edges on sofas and chairs add comfort to a space and instantly make it feel more cozy and inviting. Rounded end tables and coffee tables are increasing in popularity as well. Round tables and tables with curved edges and sides. The comfort of curves is not the only appeal of this style of furniture, it also makes a space more interesting and eye-catching especially if the piece is a bright color or contrasted against the rest of the room.

More sustainable materials

Environmentally friendly materials and building practices have been a trend for a while, but the increasing buzz about climate change is having an increasing impact on design. From design materials to furnishings to home accessories and decor, sustainable products and practices are having a moment – that looks to be here to stay.  Recycled or upcycled furniture and sustainably sourced materials are an integrated element now seen in home designs. Other elements supporting sustainability include the use of smart thermostats, low-e windows, energy saving appliances and plumbing fixtures along with more drought resistant landscaping and greenery.

Extending indoor living out

Maximizing livable space continues to be a trend in 2022 home design. The emphasis on making the most out of outdoor spaces is big. Homeowners are making outdoor living spaces a priority and investing in remodeling and design to bring indoor living outside. This is especially true in warmer climates such as Arizona, California, Nevada, Florida, and Texas where you can enjoy the outdoors nearly all year round. Outdoor kitchens, patios, fireplaces and built-in barbecues and additional seating and dining areas offer places to gather and entertain.

Using textures

Textured design features are being used throughout the home. In 2022 home design we are expecting to see more color being added into the mix, along with textiles. Wall textures are increasingly popular and lend themselves to easy DIY projects. Wallpaper and wall panels are back in style, faux brick, wood detailing and concrete walls with texture are on trend.  For those looking for a more temporary commitment to textures, a combination of textures through art, throw pillows, blankets and rugs are popular alternatives.
